James (Jim) L. Miller

jmillerJames (Jim) L. Miller, 72, of Knox, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at UPMC Northwest.

Born February 15, 1943, in Big Run, he was the son of the late Allen and LaVera Miller. On May 22, 1997, he married Deborah Hook Weldon who survives.

Jim was of Lutheran faith. He was a member of the American Legion in Knox, Clarion County Rod & Gun Club, and the VFW in Clarion.

After graduating high school in 1961, he moved to New Jersey and worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass for three years.

He then moved back to PA to start his 20­year career driving tractor trailer for various companies, living in Reynoldsville and Ridgway, before moving to Knox in 1969. In 1979, he bought and owned Oil City Beverage for a few years, and then purchased and ran the Shippen Inn in Shippenville until his retirement in 2001.

He enjoyed watching all sports, but his preference was Nascar.

He loved attending NASCAR races with his buddies to cheer on his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed sitting on his back porch and watching the deer.

Jim will certainly be remembered from all who had the privilege of knowing him for his colorful jokes and ability to bring a room to life with his conversation.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Lori (Tim) Kersey of Knox, Leah (Doug) Adams of Sligo, one son, Richard (Carol) Miller, of Knox, and step­daughter, Jayme Baumcratz of Shippenville.

Also surviving are his eight grandchildren, Cameron Adams of Pullman, WA, Elizabeth Kersey of Syracuse, NY, Bethany and Taylor Adams of Sligo, Abby Kersey of Knox, and Joshua, Gavin and Kaitlin Miller of Knox.

He is also survived by two stepgrandsons, Caleb Baumcratz presently abroad serving in the Air Force Reserves, and Daniel Baumcratz of Shippenville.

He is also survived by a brother, Edward Miller of Knox, Donald Miller of Ohio, and his mother­in­law, Virginia Hook of Knox.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a grandson, Amos Kersey, and his father­in­law, Ronald Hook of Knox. The family will receive friends from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the McEntire­Weaver Funeral Home, 504 East Penn Avenue, in Knox. Funeral services will take place at 5 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with Pastor Karen Parsh officiating.
