Earl C. “Shorty” Rice

Earl C. “Shorty” Rice, 78, a resident of Rolling Fields Nursing Home in Conneautville, PA, passed away there on Thursday evening March 26, 2015.

Earl was born on October 27, 1936 at Plum Twp., Venango County, PA, a son of the late Clifford and Velma Spangler Rice. He was married to Weltha Alcorn on October 7, 1961. She preceded him in death on July 1, 1999.

Earl was a graduate of Colestock High School in Titusville. He had been employed as a machinist and mechanic most of his life. He had worked at the former ABEX in Saegertown and at Prichard Auto Sales in Dempseytown.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was a Steeler and Pirates fan. He enjoyed mowing his grass; dirt track racing at Tri City Speedway; listening to old country music; and watching the weather channel.

He is survived by three sons, Rusty A. Rice and wife Brenda of Guys Mills, Randy E. Rice and wife Tammy of Warren, and Ricky L. Rice and wife Lori of Conneautville; two daughters, Tina Graham of Townville and
Tracey Rice of Titusville; 15 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother, Paul Rice and wife Lois of Franklin; a sister, Janis Sutton and husband Willard of Centerville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Maurice “Doc” Rice and Wallace “Barney” Rice; and two sisters, Evelyn Rice and Jean Bechard.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM and attend the funeral service there on Monday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Matthew Blake officiating.

Interment will be in Sunville Cemetery.
