WINTERSdoyledDoyle D. “Duke’ Winters, Sr., 73, a resident of 2 Crestview Drive, Franklin died peacefully at 5 AM Friday, April 3, 2015 in his home with his sons by his side; following a period of declining health.

He was born April 17, 1941 in Bloomsburg, a beloved son of the late: John T. and Devota Bogart Winters.

He proudly served his country during peacetime as a member of the Army National Guard. He had served with the Second Rifle & Weapons Platoon, Company C, 1st Battalion of the 112th Infantry Division. He was honorably discharged from duty on December 5, 1960.

Mr. Winters had worked in the trucking industry most of his life, as an owner/operator. He was a longtime member of Teamsters Local #705.

He enjoyed NASCar and dirt track racing, and had formerly driven pro stock at Tri-City Speedway. He was an avid “collector” and looked forward to attending yard sales. He also enjoyed playing Bingo, cards, puzzles and computer games. He was a longtime fan of professional wrestling.

Most important always was his family. He cherished the fun times he was able to share with them; in particular being a part of his children and grandchildren’s lives. He will be deeply missed by all of them.

He was married on May 21, 1963 in Williamsburg, VA to the former Linda L. Serrins; who preceded him in death on January 15, 2012.

He is survived by his sons: Doyle D. Winters, Jr. and his wife Melanie of Oil City; James L. Winters of Franklin, David A. Winters and his wife Michelle of Oil City and William H. Winters and his fiancé Shannon Ziegler also of Oil City.

Also surviving are his grandchildren: Heather Winters, Rachel Winters, Emily Winters, Daniel Winters, Carter Winters, Adison Winters, Payton Winters, Corrine Henderson, Kierney Manson, Gavin Leahy, Alayna Earp, Isiah Earp, Eric McMillen and Devin Ziegler.

Also surviving is his sister: Linda Craig and her husband Ray of Franklin, two brothers: Robert Winters and his wife Carol of Avon Park, FL and Charles Winters and his wife Jackie of Naples, FL; his sisters-in-law: Becky Winters of Franklin and RoJean Boone, also of Franklin; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: John, Jay and Thomas Winters.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation.

Family and friends may call Tuesday from 3-4 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin. A memorial service, in celebration of his life will be held Tuesday at 4 PM in the funeral home.

Private interment will follow in Lamey Cemetery.
