Betty S. “Joanie” Headland, 78, of Seven Hills Rd., Chicora, Oakland Township, passed away Monday afternoon, April 6, 2015 at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler following a short illness.

Betty was born in Lyndora on October 5, 1936. She was the daughter of John and Ann Weleski Shott.

She was a long time member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Oakland and the Christian Mothers.

Betty was a 1954 graduate of Butler High School.

Betty enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, knitting and crocheting, especially prayer shawls she donated to those in need.

She was an avid Pirates and Steeler fan and for many years enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.

In her earlier years, she was a member of the Chicora Bowling League. Betty had been employed as a secretary for Barnes Steel Abrasives in Butler and retired in 2000.

Mrs. Headland is survived by her husband, John F. “Jack” Headland, whom she married at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Butler on June 02, 1956. Also surviving are three sons, Scott F. Headland and his wife, Tami, of Kittanning, Mark D. Headland and his wife, Beverly, and Derek J. Headland and his wife, Diane, all of Chicora; four grandchildren, Shenin A. Dettwyler, a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and her husband, Alex, Brock Headland of Kittanning, Cory Headland, a student at Seton Hill University, Greensburg, and Tyler Headland of Chicora; a sister, Donna Livengood of Butler, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Paul “Butchy” Shott.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in the Village of North Oakland with the Rev. Rick Thompson, church pastor, celebrant.

A parish prayer service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in North Oakland.
