G. Jean Shirey

G. Jean Shirey, 95, of Rt. 38 Emlenton, Mariasville, went to be with the Lord Monday morning April 13, 2015 at Clarview Nursing Home in Sligo.

Jean was born on Sandy Point Rd., Allegheny Township, Butler County, on February 10, 1920. She was the daughter of J. Bruce and Adaline Snow Garner.

She attended the Old Zion United Methodist Church in Emlenton for many years and was a member of the church’s missionary society. She was a long time member of the Richland Grange. Jean enjoyed gardening and flowers. She had been employed at Sylvania in Brookville, the W.A. Moyer Level Works in Parker, and Clarview Nursing Home in Sligo.

She was married in Nickleville on June 6, 1942 to Ned I. Shirey. He preceded her in death on April 06, 1976.

She is survived by a son Harold w. Shirey and his wife Teresa, of Emlenton, four grandchildren, Jeremy W. Shirey and his wife Rebecca of Greensburg, Shaun Shirey and his companion Jennifer of Allentown, Crystal – Jo Burrows and her husband Wayne of Chicora and Joshua D. Shirey and his wife Tiffiny of Emlenton. Nine grandchildren, Shyla, Lexie, Ryann, Callie, Tanner, Addison, Ethan, Joshua, and Wyatt, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Arthur, Carl, Thomas, Raymond, and Lester, two sisters, Florence Horam and Eleanor Kriebel Clover, and her long time companion Ray DeSimone.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, Inc. 1204 Kerr Ave., Emlenton from 6 — 9 p.m. Saturday. A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Kent O’Neil, pastor of the Emlenton United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Zion Union Cemetery, Emlenton.
