CORNPLANTER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say an Oil City woman suffered major injuries in a one-car accident on Route 8, 2559 feet north of Kane Run Road, in Cornplanter Township, Venango County.

According to police, 51-year-old David E. Metz, of Oil City, was traveling south on SR 8 approaching a right curve in the roadway and undercompensated the curve, continued straight, and exited the left side of the road.

Police say Metz’s 1997 Pontiac Grand Am struck a tree which caused it to start into a counter-clockwise spin. The passenger’s side of the car then struck and sheared off a utility pole.

The car came to a final rest at the point of impact with the utility pole.

Community Ambulance Service transported Metz to UPMC Northwest for minor injuries, police say.

His passenger, 56-year-old Sharon M. Crick, also of Oil City, suffered major injuries and was transported to UPMC Hamot, police say.

Both occupants were using seat belts.

Metz was charged with a traffic violation.

The following agencies assisted at the scene: Cornplanter Township Volunteer Fire Department with rescue and EMS personnel; Community Ambulance Service; STAT MedEvac; and Shambaugh’s Towing.
