WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say a hit and run accident occurred on State Route 208, 377 feet west of Church Road, in Washington Township, Clarion County.

According to police, a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling east on SR 208, and 52-year-old Steven Caldararo, of New Castle, allegedly became distracted when he dropped his cell phone on the floor.

Police say when Caldararo bent to reach for it, the pickup traveled off the south berm and partially down an embankment.

The trailer of the pickup impacted a traffic sign and two posts at the end of a driveway, according to police.

Caldararo was able to gain control and returned his pickup to the roadway and continued east on SR 208, failing to stop and furnish information, police say.

He was charged with a traffic violation.
