Forest Area Elementary Students Compete in Chess Tournament

TIONESTA, Pa. — During the winter, an elementary chess club was formed by Forest Area students Cameron Call, Cameron Weller, and Dylan Saxton.

Over 30 elementary students met on a weekly basis during activity period to play.

Students were divided into two groups based on their playing experience and had the opportunity to move up.

On Thursday, April 16, and Friday, April 17, an elementary chess tournament was held for students in grades 3-6.

Christopher Pedersen helped organize the brackets and acted as one of the judges for the tournament. Twenty-eight students participated in the chess tournament.

The chess tournament concluded on Friday, April 17, with the following students placing in the top four:

1st Place — Waylin Dashner
2nd Place — Cameron Call
3rd Place — Cameron Weller
4th Place — Dylan Saxton
