PORTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a New Bethlehem teen was seriously injured in a one-vehicle accident Monday morning in Porter Township, Clarion County.

Clarion-based State Police say the accident happened around 7:40 a.m. on State Route 66, approximately 1775 feet north of Smith Road.

For unknown reasons, a southbound vehicle operated by a 17-year-old New Bethlehem male crossed over the northbound lanes of State Route 66 and crashed into the end of a guide rail, causing the vehicle to go airborne.

Police say the 2000 Volkswagen Beetle then crashed into a utility pole before spinning 180 degrees and rolling down an embankment.

The vehicle came to a rest approximately 155 feet off the east side of the roadway.

STAT MedEvac transported the driver to UPMC Presbyterian for treatment of major injuries.

The impact of the crash caused the utility pole to fall across both lanes of travel. State Route 66 was closed for approximately 5 hours while repairs were made.

New Bethlehem VFD, Limestone VFD, Hawthorn VFD, Clarion Hospital Ambulance, Leadbetter’s Towing, Central Electric, and Windstream assisted at the scene.
