SARVER, Pa. (EYT) – Cold weather returned to the area this past weekend wiping out racing action at all area tracks except one. Lernerville Speedway would complete their second show of the season Friday evening despite the brisk temperatures.

Alex Ferree opened the evening by winning the nonstop late model feature followed by the DIRTcar modified feature where Rex King Sr. would overtake race leader Brian Swartzlander to score another King victory.

The sprint car feature saw “The Apollo Rocket” Ed Lynch Jr make it two in a row as he came from his tenth starting spot to pass early leader Brandon Matus and go on to score his 111th career Lernerville win. Corey McPherson started on the pole of the DIRTcar Sportsman feature night cap leading all twenty laps en route to his nineteenth career win.

This weekend will be a big one for sprint car fans as Tony Stewart’s All-Star Circuit of Champions invade Lernerville Speedway this Friday and then move over to Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday. The traveling series is expected to bring close to twenty teams to the area to do battle with the western Pennsylvania regulars.

Leading the assault will be series point leader and fan favorite Dale Blaney of Hartford, Ohio. Former World of Outlaw regulars Tim Shaffer, Chad Kemenah, Jac Haudenschild and Cody Darrah will also join the action. Regional favorites Danny Holtgraver, Lee Jacobs, and Danny Smith are also expected along with young guns Parker Price Miller, Ryan Smith, and Sheldon Haudenschild.
With the renewed interest that Tony Stewart has brought to the All-Star Circuit of Champions, look for great shows and great fields of cars both nights. Five thousand dollars will await the feature winner for each night’s show.

Look for sprint car legend Kenny Jacobs to make his return to racing this weekend also as the Ohio driver plans to be in action both nights. Jacobs is the second winningest driver with the All-Stars boasting ninety-eight wins to his credit and four All-Star championships over the years.

Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio will try once again to open their season this Saturday. The big block modifieds will headline the racing program along with two classes of e-mods, RUSH modifieds, stock cars, and mini stocks. General admission has been lowered to ten dollars this season at Sharon and qualifying is slated to get underway at 7pm.

Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway is also scheduled to be in action this Saturday with a special “Spring Sizzler” for the RUSH crate late models paying one thousand dollars to the winner. The other regular classes will also be in action with racing getting underway at 7pm.

Sportsman’s Speedway near Knox, Pa has an open practice scheduled for this Sunday starting at 1pm until 4pm. They will get their season started the following week May 10th with a regular show headlined by the 305 sprint cars and RUSH sportsman modifieds.
