Member_146144[1]Gladys C. Crate, age 98, of New Bethlehem, died Thursday afternoon, April 30, 2015 at McKinley Healthcare in Brookville.

Born January 11, 1917 in Crates, Clarion County, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Pearl George Crate. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Gladys graduated from the Hawthorn High School in 1937 and worked for Sylvania prior to it’s closing, retiring from the H.B. DeViney Peanut Butter Factory in New Bethlehem.

She was a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church of New Bethlehem and the St. Nicholas Catholic Church of Crates.

Gladys enjoyed crocheting but her great love was for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and the always looked forward to spending time with them.

Survivors include a son, Thomas R. Crate and his wife, Toni, of Capon Bridge, West Virginia; three grandsons: Mark, Mike and Matt; eight great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2015 at the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 3028 Shannondale Street, Mayport, with Father Samuel Bungo serving as celebrant.

Interment will take place in the St. Nicholas Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in the name of Gladys C. Crate to the St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 201 Washington Street, New Bethlehem, PA 16242.
