Clarion University’s Edgar Selected for NCAA Super Regional May 4-6

CLARION, Pa. — Clarion University sophomore men’s golfer Sean Edgar (So. Bethel Park) was selected to participate as an at-large selection in the 2015 NCAA East/Atlantic Super Regional May 4-6 at Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.

At total of 20 teams, ten from the East and ten from the Atlantic regions, and eight individuals have been invited to play in the 2015 NCAA Division II Regionals on the par 72 track.

“Sean’s selection is well deserved,” said seventh year Clarion head coach Marty Rinker. “Sean has had a quality season and his selection to the regional is a just reward for his dedication and play in the 2014-15 season.”

Edgar played 20 rounds in the 2014-15 season and finished the year with an average score of 76.75. His best finished was winning the Challenge at Mystic Rock in the Fall (10-5/6) when he shot rounds of 71, 76 and 74. He also placed 12th at the PSAC’s with a 154 (79, 75), 7th at the Vulcan Invite with a 153 (78, 75) and tied for 6th at the recently completed IUP Invite with a 142 (71, 71). Edgar played the Regional Preview on April 6 and shot a 78.

In 2013-14 Edgar played 14 rounds and averaged 79.2 as a freshman. His top finish was 6th at Gannon with a 151 (78, 73) and he was 24th at PSAC’s with a 155 (75, 80).

According to the NCAA release, the top four teams at the Super Regional will advance to the NCAA Championships May 18-22, at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, North Carolina. The next two best individual scores not including the top four team qualifiers will also qualify for nationals.

CLARION NOTES: Clarion qualified as a team in the 2012 NCAA Regionals and finished in 8th place…. Ross Pringle finished 11th in medal play with a 54-hole total of 230 (79, 77, 74) … In 2011 Jared Schmader won medalist honors at the Regionals shooting a four-under par 212 … 67, 74, 71 …. Clarion placed 6th as a team that season – missing the NCAA’s by one stroke … Schmader went on to the NCAA’s and finished 87th with rounds of 77, 81, 81.
