WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say an arson occurred at a property off State Route 36, in Washington Township, Clarion County.

According to police, sometime between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. on April 28, a known 30-year-old man started a fire to burn trash and leaves at a property located between Birch Lane and Aspen Lane, in Washington Township.

Police say the man left the scene and a 57-year-old woman was monitoring the fire.

She left the fire alone, and it spread through a patch of woods and surrounded a 53-year-old Freedom man’s camp, melting vinyl siding on the camp, garage, and outbuilding, in addition to causing other damage, according to police.

Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department was summoned to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze before catching the victim’s camp on fire and reaching another camp, police say.

No other information was provided.
