barrett 001Ellen M. “Dottie” Barrett, 92, of Horsecreek Rd. Oil City, PA. ,passed away May 2, 2015 following a brief illness.

Dottie was born in Rimer, PA. (Armstrong County) on Sept. 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Simon and Annie Delacour Rush and step-daughter of Nettie Herman Rush.

She attended Tidal and Oil City Schools.

Dottie was a child care provider and seamstress for several local families and loved sewing and gardening. She retired from Polk Center after 15 years as a MRA there.

She was married to Edward J. Barrett, Sr. in St. Stephen’s rectory by Fr. Walsh on Oct. 10, 1942 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 13, 1977.

She is survived by one son, Edward J. Barrett, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Oil City; three grandchildren, Janine Gifford Gorman and her husband Michael, Jill Gifford Kreidler, Elizabeth Barrett Hipwell and her husband Brad, of Erie; four step-grandsons, William C. Marsh of Cranberry Township, Pa., Barry Marsh of Georgia, David Weeter and his wife Lynn, Andrew Weeter all of Texas; and many great grandchildren and several great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Dottie was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Gifford, her great-granddaughter, Janet Gifford, a daughter-in-law, Christine Barrett, and seven brothers and sisters, Albert Rush, Glenn Rush, Margaret Perrine, Bernice Ahrens, Elmer Rush, Homer Rush and Clarence Rush. Dottie was the last member of her immediate family.

There will be no visitation.

A private service will be held for the family at their convenience and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory assisted the family with the arrangements.
