JOHN VASBINDER PHOTOJohn E. Vasbinder, Sr., 93, formerly of Pleasantville, passed away Wednesday evening May 20, 2015 at Warren General Hospital.

He had been a resident at the Suites of the Rouse in Youngsville.

John was born on May 1, 1922 at Timblin, PA, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine Welz Vasbinder.

He was first married to Thelma Pire on May 31, 1940 at Bradford. She preceded him in death on June 26, 1983.

He later married Mary Moffett on Oct. 24, 1986 in Franklin. She preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2000.

John was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army.

He entered the service on Jan. 18, 1945 at Erie, PA and was honorably discharged on June 19, 1946 at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.

He had been employed in the oil industry most of his life having worked for Northern Ordinance, Patton Oil, and as a tank truck driver for Quaker State.

He had attended the Pleasantville Community Church. He was a member of the Bruce Shorts Post 5958 VFW and of the Cleo J. Ross Post 368 American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and doing puzzles. He also enjoyed building fishing rods.

John is survived by a son, John E. Vasbinder, Jr. and wife Betty of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, Susan Cameron, Becky Hackman and Darlene Newell; 7 great grandchildren; and the first great great granddaughter expected any day.

In addition to his parents and wives, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Newell; two grandchildren, John E. Vasbinder III and Cheri Vasbinder; two brothers; and three sisters.

Friends may call at the Gordon B. Garrett Funeral Home 303 N. Washington St. Titusville on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at which time the funeral service will be conducted with Rev.
Shawn Jacobson of the Pleasantville Community Church officiating.

Interment will be in Jerusalem Corners Cemetery with full military rites.
