Grant Albert Hanst

9db44d87e48e07c7[1]Grant Albert Hanst, 92, of Knox, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior at Clarview Nursing Home at 8:30pm on Thursday, May 21, 2015.

Born November 18, 1922, in Ashland Township, he was the son of William and Bernice (Schreffler) Hanst. He was part owner of Knox Construction Company and contributed to the construction of Treasure Lake in DuBois, Keystone football field in Knox, and many other projects throughout Clarion County. In his later years he was a successful salesman for State Equipment Company.

On November 11, 1947 Grant married Marjorie Ann and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage together. His family and friends will cherish the many fun times around the pool, picnics, tractor rides, and campfires. His legacy and dedication to his family will always be remembered in their hearts.

Along with his wife Grant is survived by three children, Alynda J. (Richard) Meier of Virginia Beach, Cynthia K (Thomas) Reed of Knox and Beverly Hanst (Tom Schildkamp) of Meadville; seven grandchildren Anissa (Alex) Knight, Benjamin (Jen) Meier, Todd Meier, Brooke (Mike) Poli, Corrie (Bobby) Timko, Luke Reed and Abbey Reed; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister Betty Barger of St. Petersburg and a sister in law Jeanne Hanst of Mars.

Along with his parents Grant was preceded in death by two sister and two brothers Thelma Kaber, Willis “Lefty” Hanst, Ellery Hanst and La Donna Singleton.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Monday and from 10 to 11 am Tuesday at the McEntire-Weaver Funeral Home Inc, 504 East Penn Ave, Knox. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday in the funeral home with Ben Meier officiating. Interment will follow at the Brandon Cemetery in Cranberry. The Berlin-Bowser American Legion Post #720 of Knox full military honors.

In lieu flowers the family request memorials are made to Bridge Church Guatemala Youth, 5648 Morris Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23457, for Anissa Knight and/or Ben Meier’s mission trip.
