James R. McLaughlin

James R. McLaughlin, 79, of Oil City, died at 7:20 pm, Monday, May 25, 2015, at the Golden Living Center – Oil City.

Born June 8, 1935 in Oil City, he was a son of the late Patrick H. and Alice E. Miller McLaughlin.

Jim graduated from Oil City High School and then in 1957 from Westminster College with a Bachelor in Business Administration.

He was employed in the accounting department of United Natural Gas co. (now National Fuel) from 1957 to 1975. He then entered the insurance business where he was an agent for Equitable, American General and Metropolitan, before becoming a broker for Principal Financial Group until 2004. He then worked as a substitute teacher for Clarion Manor Intermediate Unit 6.

Jim was a member of Second Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity, a member and past president of the Oil City Kiwanis Club and a past president of the Polk Center Parents Association.

On March 1, 1976, he married the former Diane DeBerti, who survives.

In addition to his wife, surviving are two sons, Thomas J. McLaughlin of York and James M. McLaughlin of Grove City; and two step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepson Allen C. Seyler.

There will be no visitation.

Services will be conducted at the convenience of the family.

Interment will be in Rockland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to Allegheny Valley School Slippery Rock Program Center, 215 Rebecca Lane, Slippery Rock PA 16057-8519.
