Clarion County Salary Board Okays Deputy Sheriff Replacements, Hirings, and Promotions

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — The Clarion County Salary Board approved two new hires on Tuesday, May 26, to fill vacant Clarion County Deputy Sheriff positions.

Greg Smith and Damien Avery will fill the vacant part-time positions at 29 hours a week or less at an hourly wage of $11.43.

The two positions will include no benefits, no paid vacation, and no sick or personal days. Many of the deputy sheriffs are retired state police.  Smith is retired from Clarion University Public Safety.

Clarion County Sheriff Rex Munsee said he has a total of six full-time and six part-time officers.

Other hires or promotions included:

• James Schott of Corrections was promoted after completing one year of training in Corrections. The new contracted pay rate is $12.75 per hour.

• Richard First was hired to replace a vacant Park Ranger position. The position is part-time, 29 hours a week or less, with an hourly wage of $9.18.

• Joshua Schick will be reassigned from full-time to part-time Dispatcher in OES/911 at an hourly wage of $11.38 effective June 2.

• Resignations effective June 1 included Eric Bell of Buildings and Grounds and Judy Mellott of the Conservation District.

Clarion County Salary Board members included Wayne Brosius, Greg Faller, Butch Campbell (via phone), Clarion County Theresa Snyder, and Rex Munsee.
