According to Clarion County Office of Emergency Services, a structure fire was reported at Burger King in New Bethlehem at 12:47 p.m.

There was smoke coming from the roof when crews arrived; however, no flames were visible at 1:59 p.m.

New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Company Chief Barry Fox told exploreClarion.com that a fire was discovered in the roof area when crews arrived on the scene.

“A maintenance man was working on the air conditioning unit, and we think that a hot coal fell down through the roof, causing the fire,” stated Fox.

“We put the fire out and then we cut holes in the roof to inspect the area to ensure the flames were fully extinguished.”

Clarion Fire and Hose’s aerial unit was also used to inspect the roof area.

Fox says the building sustained extensive damage to the roof and interior.

No one was injured in the fire, according to Fox.

Burger King operating partner Keith Egyed was on the scene but was unavailable for comment.

It is unclear when Burger King will reopen.

The following fire departments assisted at the scene:

  • Hawthorn Volunteer Fire Company
  • Distant Area Volunteer Fire Department
  • Clarion Fire & Hose Company Number 1
  • Limestone Township Volunteer Fire Department
  • Rimersburg Volunteer Fire Company

Clarion Hospital Ambulance also responded to the scene.

Next-door neighbor Tom’s Riverside donated eight cases of water for firefighters.

Crews were preparing to clear the scene around 4 p.m.
