Wesley S. “Smoke” Rarer

Wesley S. “Smoke” Rarer, 82, of Frederick, MD, formerly of Franklin died Thursday June 4, 2015 at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, WV.

A son of Wesley A. and Hazel Josephine Rarer, he was born in Franklin on May 26, 1933. He was a graduate of Franklin High School.

Smoke was retired from government services. Throughout his career he had served in the C.I.A., U.S. State Department, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and as special event coordinator of the National Park Mall in Washington DC. He had served under several presidents.

Mr. Rarer was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict.

Surviving are two sons Kevin Rarer and John Rarer both of Frederick, MD, a daughter Michelle Downs of Laurel, MD, two grandchildren Sean Downs of Ellicott City, MD and Mason Rarer of Frederick, MD. His former wife, Dolores Rarer of Frederick, MD also survives.

At his request there will be no public memorial service.
