Mary Alphene Hughes

Mary Alphene Hughes, 85, of Emlenton passed away June 11, 2015 at Grove City Medical Center after a extended illness.

Born June 2, 1930 in Clinton Twp., Venango County, she was the daughter of Larry “Clyde” Bell and Myra Mortlaud Bell.

Alphene attended Coal Valley School.

She married Kenneth E. Hughes Sr in Butler on September 11, 1948, he passed away June 23, 1981.

Alphene was a devoted housewife and mother.

She enjoyed cooking and canning when she was able. Mary loved music whether it was singing and playing the piano or playing the guitar. She loved to visit with her family and friends and was known to spoil a few Grand-dogs a few times.

Alphene is survived by her children Rev. Kenneth E. Hughes Jr. and his wife Susan of Emlenton and Dennis C. Hughes and his wife Linda of Boyers, 4 grandchildren Jennifer Shipton of Emlenton, Scott Hughes of Evans City, Brian Hughes and his wife Kathy of Seneca and Michael Hughes of Emlenton, 7 great grandchildren Kendra, Brandon, Ryan, Alex, Travis, Hunter and Braden, and Sisters Edith Rihel and Ruth Miller of CA.

Alphene is proceeded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Carl, Delmar and Clarence Bell and sisters Kate Banni, Mildred Staffer and Jean Scott.

Family will receive friends at Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, 109 Emlenton Street, Clintonville on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 11-1, funeral service will take place at the funeral home at 1:00 pm with the Rev. Dan Myers, retired Methodist minister and her son Rev. Kenneth Hughes officiating.

Interment will take place at Clintonville Methodist Cemetery, Clintonville PA The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Clintonville Volunteer Fire Dept., 501 Emlenton Street, Clintonville PA 16372.
