ELDRED TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say a suspected DUI-related accident occurred on State Route 36, 131 feet north of Old Route 36, in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 39-year-old Melanie J. Heichel, of Clearfield, was traveling northbound on SR 36, and her 1996 GMC Jimmy traveled off the eastern side of the roadway and struck a ditch and a mailbox.

Then, the vehicle overturned onto its roof while spinning in a clockwise direction, coming to a final rest approximately 18′ north of the initial point of impact, facing a southern direction, police say.

Heichel suffered minor injuries; Jefferson County EMS transported her to Brookville Area Hospital.

She was not using a seat belt, according to police.

She was charged with a traffic violation.

The vehicle sustained severe damage and was towed from the scene by McPherson Auto Body.

During the course of the investigation, it was allegedly determined that Heichel was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, police say.
