LeRoy H . Hart, Sr.

Member_147657[1]LeRoy H . Hart, Sr., age 81 of Route 157, Oil City, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, June 17, 2015.

Born on May 27, 1934 in Rockland, he was the son of the late David Alvy and Goldie Elizabeth (Shontz) Hart.

He graduated from Emlenton High School, and later served in the U.S. Army in Korea during peacetime, following the Korean War.

Roy was well known as “the beer guy,” having worked for Stubler’s Beer Distributor delivering beer for thirty years. He always had a good story to tell about his adventures on the delivery route. He was a straight-forward kind of guy who wasn’t afraid to tell it like it was.

Some believe that Roy missed his true calling, as he was an excellent cook and baker; everyone was expected to come for Sunday dinners, when his health permitted. He loved hunting and fishing with his children, especially his grandkids and great-grand kids. He always had a big garden and kept busy canning his harvest in the fall. Roy loved a good fish fry, cookout or corn roast. He hosted many parties and poker games where a tapped keg was never too far away. Roy loved to travel with his family and see new places. As his health declined, he enjoyed putting puzzles together and playing cards with family. Roy liked to joke, tease and put on a rough exterior, but on the inside was a heart of gold, and he will be extremely missed by all that knew him.

Surviving is his wife, Marilyn Elaine (Sherlock) Hart, whom he married in Tryonville, Crawford County on June 27, 1959; his five children, Richard Hart of Oil City, Goldie O’Dell and her husband James of Seneca, Randy Hart and his wife Annette of Franklin, Marcy Hart of Seneca, and LeRoy “Buddy” Hart, Jr. of Oil City; and six grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, six great-grandkids and ten step-great grandkids.

Also surviving are five sisters: Vera Renninger and her husband Jack, Faye Warner and her husband Edwin, Lois Carson, Thelma Souders, and Sue Shouey; a brother-in-law, Richard Daly; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: David “June” Hart, Carl “Butch” Hart, and Walter Hart; three sisters, Marie Fox, Norma Daly and Betty Mae Hart; four brothers-in-law, Norm Carson, Jim Kelchner, Mike Panchek and Richard “Gubs” Fox; and a niece and a step-grandson.

Friends will be received Sunday (June 21) from 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday (June 22) at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William Hastings, pastor of Seneca United Methodist Church, officiating. The V.E.T.S. Honor Guard will accord military honors following the service. Interment will follow in Rockland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
