Thumbnail[1]Douglas J. Boring, 68, of Meadville, passed away at his residence at 8:34 p.m. on Sunday, June 21st, surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 6, 1947 in Oil City, Doug was the son of James Harry and Pauline L. Eakin Boring. He married Shirl A. Smock on February 20, 1999 and she survives.

Doug obtained his Associates Degree in Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh-Titusville and worked at Conair as a Design Engineer for 42 years prior to his retirement. While working at Conair, he had 30 patents. He also worked for the Franklin Ambulance Service as a Paramedic.

While in high school, Doug was on the track team as a pole vaulter, and became a state champion.

He attended the Congress Hill Church of God, and was a member of the B.P.O.E. #100. He enjoyed racing, and built and raced his cars. He enjoyed traveling and also held a pilot’s license. Doug was a great golfer, and also enjoyed bowling, and fishing with his father. He also enjoyed skiing and was on the ski patrol at the Buckaloon’s. He was an avid civil war enthusiast.

In addition to his wife, Shirl, Doug is survived by his mother, Pauline Boring of Franklin; his sons, Eric Boring of Chester, WV and his partner, Mo Cheuvront, Matthew Boring and his wife, Rachel Debra, of Newport News, VA; his step-sons, Robert E. Lake of Jamestown, and Donald J. Lake, and his wife, Beverly, of Linesville; and his step-daughters, Tammy S. Mowris and Sharon L. Smock, both of Conneaut Lake.

He is also survived by his grandchildren, Holly Malone of Newport News, VA, Santana Mowris of Pittsburgh, and Cody Mowris of Conneaut Lake.

Doug is additionally survived by his brother, Mark Boring of Franklin; and his sister, Deborah K. Smith and her husband, Edmond, of Durango, CO.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Harry Boring; his first wife, Joan Brown; and his sisters, Donna Boring and Barbara Ann Boring.

Family and friends of Doug will be received at the Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc., 1315 Chestnut Street, Franklin on Tuesday, June 23rd from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 24th. Interment will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of Crawford County — 464 Pine Street, Meadville PA 16335.
