MONROE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police say around 12:01 p.m. on June 27, a one-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80, at its intersection with Exit 62 westbound on ramp, in Monroe Township, Clarion County.

According to police, 68-year-old Edgar R. Kennedy, of Delphi, IN, was traveling west on I-80 through a section of long term construction during a period of steady rain. His 2007 International Harvester truck was in the line of vehicles using the left lane of I-80 due to the right lane being sectioned off for roadwork.

Police say as the truck passed the Exit 62 westbound on ramp merge point, the traffic in front of his vehicle began to slow for an unknown reason. When he realized the slowed traffic, he was approaching the rear of the vehicle in front of him too quickly and forcefully applied the brakes. His vehicle slid on the wet road surface, veered off the left side of the roadway, and entered onto the center grass-covered median.

Then, the vehicle slid through the grass for approximately 100 feet turning counter clockwise 90 degrees. The right side of the vehicle impacted an Automatic Queue Warning (AQW) system which was set up in the median. After this initial impact, the vehicle continued in a westerly direction for approximately 15 feet, coming to a final rest facing east in the median, according to police.

Kennedy was using a seat belt and was not injured.

He was charged with a traffic violation.
