The National Weather Service in Pittsburgh confirmed Wednesday a microburst hit Tuesday evening near Strattanville and caused a significant amount of damage to the property of a Clarion Township resident.
Authorities responded to a report of wind damage to property at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday night along Dave’s Storage Lane just off of State Route 322 in Clarion Township near Strattanville.
Responding to the scene were the Strattanville Volunteer Fire Department, Clarion Township Local Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Hall, and Clarion County Emergency Management Coordinator Randall Stahlman.
Hall told exploreClarion.com the NWS from Pittsburgh visited the site today and determined a microburst with winds between 65 and 70 miles-per-hour was responsible for the damage.
“They determined this after looking at the debris field and the tree damage and doing their analysis,” Hall said.
The weather event is said to be responsible for ripping and peeling back the roof of a building, scattering debris, and damaging and uprooting several trees.
Hall said the event appears to have occurred in a specific area, and no injuries were reported.
“We believe the damage is limited to about a 300-yard area on one property belonging to George Kossman,” Hall said. “We’ve advised Mr. Kossman he will need to take appropriate measures with his insurance provider.”
