Applebee AlanAlan L. Appleby, 66, of Knox passed away Monday, July 6, at the Butler Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Born July 25, 1948 in Derby, England he was the son of the late Leslie and Majorie Appleby.

Alan married Cathy Kahle who he met on a business trip for Ransomes and Rapier. They lived in England for four years before moving to Clarion County. Alan spent 6 years with the Royal Merchant Marines. During his time in the marines he sailed around the world four times and visited every continent.

Alan served a seven year apprenticeship for Rolls Royce where he worked as a millright and an engineer. After moving to the US he worked for Clarion Boards as a vibration system analyst.

Alan is survived by his wife; two children Alexis Appleby of Pittsburgh and Devon Appleby of Knox; and a sister Beverly Whetton of Derby, England. Along with his parents Alan was preceded in death by a brother Howard Appleby.

The Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, and from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday at the McEntire­Weaver Funeral Home, at 504 East Penn Avenue in Knox.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at the funeral home, with Pastor Dave Morris officiating.
