Rick’s Racing Roundup: Titusville’s Blair Grabs Win at Eriez Speedway

SARVER, Pa. (EYT) – For the fourth consecutive Friday rain was a factor at Lernerville Speedway. Track officials did all they could to move the show along but steady and heavy rains hit the track after qualifying washing out the feature events.

The crate late model feature will be made up on July 24th while officials are still working on a date to finish the remainder of the BOSS sprint car portion of the show which attracted a strong field of 33 cars.

Lernerville Speedway will be back in action this Friday with a regular show featuring their fab 4 divisions. Racing gets underway at 7:30 and it will also be dollar dog night.

Over at Mercer Raceway Park they were able to complete their Friday night program with just a few stray showers. Tony Stewart’s All-Star Circuit of Champions was in town for the weekend and it was Ohio racer Lee Jacobs scoring the win Friday night over Chad Kemenah and Mercer regular Rod George.

Saturday night another strong field of cars filled the pits where central Pa native Ryan Smith picked up the win over fellow All-Stars Dale Blaney and Cody Darrah. This Saturday the ARDC midgets will replace the 410 sprint cars on the weekly card.

Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio will present their biggest show of the season this Saturday when the 7th annual Lou Blaney Memorial takes center stage. Headlining the card will be the All-Star Circuit of Champions in a 10,000 to win contest along with a 2,000 to win program for the BRP big block modified tour.

There will be many activities available before the races get underway in an effort to raise money for the Greater East Ohio Area Alzheimer’s Association. A cornhole tournament, dunk tank, several auctions along with a long list of activities for kids get underway at 1:30. Sprint car legend Steve Kinser will also be on hand racing and signing autographs.

Thunder Mountain Speedway near Brookville was another track battling rain on Friday night. They completed most of their program before rain washed out the show. Fans that head to Thunder Mountain the next two weeks will see some bonus racing. The track will complete the final 17 laps of the late model feature this Friday and make up the 305 sprint and stock feature July 17th.

After getting washed out at Lernerville Friday the BOSS sprint car series headed to Pittsburgh Motor Speedway to do battle on the Monster Half Mile. USAC winner Kody Swanson bested Shawn Westerfeld for the win. Pittsburgh will be back in action this Saturday with the Ed Laboon Memorial for the late models along with the Penn-Ohio Stock Series and autographs for the fans.

After taking this past Sunday off, Sportsman’s Speedway in Knox will be back in action with a full night of racing. There will be a demo derby along with the Vintage Cars.

While Sportsman’s was idle Sunday there was plenty of action north at Eriez Speedway where the Patriot Sprint Tour visited the track. 360 ace Justin Barger of New York made a late race pass to score the victory. Max Blair of Titusville had a good night winning the late model feature and finishing second to Chad Wright in the crate late model feature.
