Doris Ruth Seigworth Raybould

Doris Ruth Seigworth Raybould, 93, died Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Christ the King Manor, DuBois.

Born Oct. 25, 1921, at RD Strattanville, she was a daughter of Solomon Curtis and Ruth Lillian (Shingledecker) Seigworth.

She graduated valedictorian of her class at Clarion-Limestone High School and then earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at Clarion State Teachers College. She also earned her Master’s Equivalency. Her teaching career spanned more than 27 years in Montgomery County, Md., Schools.

She was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church, North Bethesda, Md., and after moving to DuBois, a member of Christ Lutheran Church. She was in the choir in Maryland and loved to lift her voice in song in both churches and at the hymn sings at Christ the King Manor.

In 1944, she married Robert A. Mortland from Clarion. They had three children: Erica L. Mortland of DuBois, Robert A. Jr. (Carol) Mortland of Reynoldsville, and Dan S. (Cheryl) Mortland of Linden, Va. Major Mortland, a test pilot for the United States Air Force, was killed in a plane crash in 1951.

In 1962, she married Merrill E. Raybould in Rockville, Md., and welcomed into her heart his three children: Marilyn D. (Max) Kirby, Thomas M. (Frankie) Raybould, and David M. (Virginia) Raybould all of Leesburg, Fla. Doris and Merrill had a daughter, Ruth A. (David) Carmi of Colorado Springs, Colo. Merrill preceded her in death in 2013.

Doris is survived by all of her seven children and a multitude of grandchildren, great- and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was a great cook and loved to cook for all of them. When Merrill was asked what his secret was in reaching 101 years old; he said, “Mom’s cooking.”

Along with her parents and two husbands, Doris was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Lucille Spangler; and her two brothers, Donald Curtis and Raymond Leonard Seigworth.

Doris wished to be cremated so there will be no viewing. Burial will take place in Parklawn Cemetery in Maryland at a later date.
