Cyril Francis Kurtz

Cyril Francis Kurtz, 86, of Blairs Corners, Knox PA, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Born on July 5, 1929 in Kennedy Township, Allegheny County he was the sixth child and the second son of George Richard and Anna Cecilia Daley Kurtz.

He attended St. Mary’s and Kenmawr elementary schools, Stowe High School and further education through USAFI and Lasalle Extension University.

Cyril served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 with primary duty being in Korea during that conflict.

He worked as a bus driver for Mount Nazareth Convent in Pittsburgh and as a crane operator for Pittsburgh Des Moines Steel Fabricating Company. He went on to hold several accounting and management positions at Trion Air Cleaning Systems, Knox Glass Container Corporation, US Steel and Wolf’s Den Campground. He also operated Kurtz Accounting Service from his home since 1970.

In 1955 he was married to Zora Sokolovich, his lifetime friend and partner; she survives. Also surviving are his seven children: Mary Kurtz Klinger and her husband James of Harrisburg, PA; Susan Kurtz Batson and her husband W. Brayton “Buck” of Avalon, PA; Theresa Kurtz and her husband Rick Chew of Natrona Heights, PA; Cyril George Kurtz and his wife Chang Kum Cha “Hyun Hee” of Augusta, GA; Adelle Kurtz Benjelloun and her husband Najib of Mechanicsburg, PA; Cynthia Kurtz and her husband Paul Fernhout of Edinburg, NY; and Beverly Kurtz Folmer and her husband James of Germantown, MD. Also surviving are ten grandsons, eight granddaughters, five great-granddaughters and three great-grandsons. In addition he is survived by two sisters Anna Kurtz Janney and Grace Kurtz Konchar, a sister-in-law Kathy Wurms Kurtz, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Cyril was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers: Mary Agnes Kurtz, Marcella Kurtz Patton, Jane Kurtz Fischer, Laura Kurtz Wray, George Richard Kurtz, Jr, and Thomas H. Kurtz.

Friends will be received at the Faller Funeral Home, Inc. in Fryburg on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 from 7-9 pm and also on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A parish vigil service will be held at 6:45 pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2015 at the funeral home.

Mass of a Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, July 17, 2015 at St. Michael’s Church in Fryburg, with Rev. D.G. Davis III, pastor presiding. Interment will be in the St. Michael’s Cemetery following the Mass.

Memorials in Cyril’s honor may be made to Clarion-Forest VNA or Butler Veterans Administration.
