Janet P. McCord of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Bradford and Titusville, PA, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2015 at the Lane Purcell Hospice House following a brief illness.

She was born in Bradford, PA, June 3, 1936, the daughter of the late Edward C. and Dorothy Thayer Prentice. Janet was married for 56 years to the late William G. McCord, Jr. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Thayer and Robert.

Janet was a 1954 graduate of Bradford (PA) High School. She was known everywhere she lived for her activity in charitable organizations. She gave many hours of her life to organizations including the Bradford Welcome Wagon, the March of Dimes, the Titusville Women’s Club, and the Mended Hearts Society of Leesburg Regional Medical Center, where she served as President for many years.

Surviving are her children: son Timothy and daughter-in-law Cynthia of Titusville, PA; son Thomas and daughter-in-law Charlotte of Houston, TX; son Martin of Leesburg, FL; and son Dean and daughter-in-law Marcella of Raleigh, NC. In addition to her children, Janet is survived by her brother, Jeffrey Prentice of Bradford, PA, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews as well as a very special friend, Mr. Bill Proffit.

A celebration of life will be held on July 21 at 10:30 AM at the South Pointe Baptist Fellowship, 25900 US Highway 27, Leesburg, FL with Pastor George Thomas celebrant.

A luncheon for the family will be held at the church immediately following the funeral service.

Inurnment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mended Hearts Inc., c/o Walter Bogaerts, 5353 Treasure View Way, Leesburg, FL 34748 or to the Lane Purcell Hospice House, 2452 CR 526 E, Sumterville, FL 33585.
