Mary Grove

Mary Grove, 101, of Franklin, passed away on Thursday, July 23rd at 11:30 a.m. at the Golden Living Center in Oil City.

Born March 7, 1914 in Franklin, Mary was the daughter of the late John K. McCalmont and Clara Reed McCalmont. On September 9, 1936, she married Howard L. Grove, who preceded Mary in death on December 23, 1982.

Mary was raised on her parent’s farm and graduated in 1930 from Franklin High School. She attended Allegheny College and later became an owner of Grove T.V. with her husband. Mary was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Franklin.

In her spare time, Mary enjoyed gardening, spending time with her pets (especially her cats), and taking care of the animals on the farm. She also enjoyed reading and taking walks.

Mary is survived by her son, John A. Grove, and his wife, Becky, of Franklin; and her daughter, Sharon Fratcher, of Franklin. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Margaret Grove of Lawrence, Kansas; and Benjamin Grove, and his fiancee, Nicole Dunkel, of Oil City.

She was preceded in death only by her parents and husband.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 29th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Franklin, with Rev. Barry Jenkins, pastor of the church, officiating.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Venango County Humane Society, c/o Donations, PO Box 1045, Oil City, PA 16301.
