William J. “Bill” Bergin

William J. “Bill” Bergin, 64, formerly of Franklin, passed away quietly on July 26, 2015 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh from sudden complications of a massive stroke and heart bleed.

He was born July 19, 1951 and was the son of the late Eleanor Black Bergin McElhaney and Arthur Cyril Bergin and the stepson of Paul James McElhaney.

Bill was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, quad riding and motorcycle riding. He enjoyed spending quality time with his many animals past and present.

Bill worked his way up from nursing aide to an RN to a Certified Nurse Practitioner. He started at the former Franklin Hospital then moved to the VA Hospital in Aspinwall, where he worked as a nurse practitioner with geriatric patients. He worked at the VA Hospital for over 28 years.

Even in death, Bill is helping others by donating his organs to CORE.

He is survived by his son, Dr. William “Bo” Bergin of Johnstown and Bo’s mother, Becky Bergin of McKees Rocks; his brothers and their wives, Richard “Dick” Bergin and his wife Margaret of Utica, Paul Bergin and his wife Karen of Utica; his sisters, Marge Bergin and Paula McElhaney both of Cooperstown and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his Mom, Dad, Stepdad, a nephew, Paul James “PJ” Bergin, a brother, Thomas “Tom” Bergin, and his beloved aunt, Claribel “Auntie.”

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc. 312 West Park St. Franklin, where family and friends are welcome from 2:00 – 4:00 PM on Tuesday.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
