Ronald E Smith20150727_16395839Ronald E. Smith, 89, of Summerville, died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Penn Highlands Health Center in Dubois (formerly Dubois Regional Medical Center).

Born July 23, 1926 in Baxter, PA., he was the son of the late Harold C. and Florence Morrison Smith.

Ronald married Florence Shilling on Feb. 4, 1948. Ronald was employed in the clay mines at Glen Gery Brick, (formerly Hanley Brick), in Summerville, where he retired in October of 1988.

He was an avid hunter and Pittsburgh Pirate fan. Ronald was a veteran of U.S. ARMY, having served in WWII. Ronald was a member of the Church of Christ in Summerville.

Along with his wife, Ronald is survived by a son, Robert (Doris) Smith of DuBois; a daughter, Susan (David) Stiteler of Indiana, PA; four brothers, Jack of Brookville, Jim of Summerville, Dean (Pauline) of Summerville, and Eddie (Virginia) of Corsica; six grandchildren, Jeffery Smith, Melissa Bender, Lori Stevens, Megan Fisher, Jason Smith, and Travis Stiteler; and six great grandchildren, Jessica and Morgan Stevens, Alyssa and Cameron Bender, and Andrew Fisher and Colton Stiteler.

In addition to his parents, Ronald is preceded in death by three sisters, Elsie, Frances, and Evelyn and four brothers, Junior, Leroy, Lloyd, and Dan.

His family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Furlong Funeral Home, Gregory K. Furlong FD, 50 Broad Street in Summerville, PA.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at the Church of Christ in Summerville with Randy Matheny and Larry Krouse officiating.

Interment and grave side committal services will follow at the Ohl Cemetery in Beaver Twp., Jefferson County.
