Tillie C. Hinds

Tillie-Hinds-1438008456[1]Tillie C. Hinds, age 103, formerly of Oil City, passed away very peacefully on Sunday evening, July 26, 2015 at Sunrise of Presque Isle Bay in Erie.

Tillie was born on April 22, 1912 in Franklin, she was the daughter of the late John Heider and Angela Marć Heider.

She married Francis W. Hinds on September 6, 1936 and was married for 64 years before he died in December 13, 2000.

She spent her childhood and married life in Oil City until she moved to Erie in 1999, to be close to her husband in a nursing home and her two children.

A child of the Great Depression, Tillie baked, knitted, crocheted, sewed, and canned for her family. For years, she volunteered then worked as a baker at St. Stephen School Cafeteria until she retired at age 70. She was a strong woman and was a cancer-survivor after the age of 100.

Tillie was a member of St. Stephen Church and volunteered for several organizations in Oil City and belonged to the Izaac Walton Ladies Auxiliary, and St. Stephen Altar Rosary Society.

Tillie was preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband Francis and two children, John (at birth) and Timothy in 2005, and all her siblings, John, Michael, Andrew, Bert and Estelle Heider.

She was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Kathleen and Jeffrey Eichelsdorfer.

Tillie is survived by her daughter Nancy Eichelsdorfer and her husband David of Erie and her daughter-in-law, Linda Hinds also of Erie; four grandchildren, Cheri Hinds, Susan Demenik (Jeffrey), Timothy Hinds (Laurie) and Christine Huey (Christopher). She was Nana to six great-grandchildren, Alexis (Zack), Gabrielle, Devin, Bryce, Kyler and Cailyn; one great-great grandchild, Nathan. She is further survived by special nieces, Elizabeth Falls, Sandra Biles and Jane Houk.

The family extends a special thanks to those who lovingly cared for her at Sunrise on Presque Isle Bay. She participated in many activities and enjoyed the daily afternoon socials.

The family will receive friends at St. Stephen Church from 10:30 till 11:00 am on Thursday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am Thursday in St. Stephen Church.

Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
