Two Face Charges in Monroe Twp. Motel Drug Bust

MONROE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Two men were arrested at a motel in Monroe Township for possession of various illegal drugs.

According to a criminal complaint, state police were contacted around 12:23 p.m. on August 8 by the owner of a motel who reported a housekeeper found suspected drugs while attempting to clean a room.

Police responded to the scene and found Cory J. Berkley, 34, of Bronx, NY, and Brian Chavez Green, 29, of Philadelphia, PA, near the room in question, the complaint states.

Police were attempting to handcuff Berkley, who was identified as the renter of the room, but he allegedly refused to put his hands behind his back, tensed up and was uncooperative, shoved a trooper, and then fled on foot before being apprehended after a 200-yard foot chase, the complaint indicates.

Berkley was allegedly found to be in possession of $1,302.65 and an Apple I-phone. He also gave police a false name, according to the complaint.

Green was taken into custody at the motel and was allegedly found to be in possession of a cell phone and $1,565.00 in cash, the complaint continues.

Green allegedly told police there was a black bookbag in the room belonging to him which contained marijuana, the complaint states.

Police obtained a search warrant and allegedly found 29 bags of heroin, about one ounce of crack cocaine, over two ounces of marijuana, several empty bags which had contained marijuana, several receipts, and an LG cell phone, according to the complaint.

Based on the information gathered during the investigation, Trooper Thomas filed criminal complaints and requested the suspects be charged.

According to online court documents, Berkley and Green were arraigned at 9:45 p.m. on August 8 before District Judge Duane Quinn and were charged as follows:

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
  • Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor
  • Marijuana-Small Amt Personal Use, Misdemeanor
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
  • Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
  • Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforce, Misdemeanor 2
  • False Identification To Law Enforcement Officer, Misdemeanor 3

Unable to post $25,000.00 monetary bail, Berkley was placed in the Clarion County Jail.

  • Manufacture, Delivery, or Possession With Intent to Manufacture or Deliver, Felony
  • Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered, Misdemeanor
  • Marijuana-Small Amt Personal Use, Misdemeanor
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

Unable to post $15,000.00 monetary bail, Green was placed in the Clarion County Jail.

A preliminary hearing for both men has been set for 2:00 p.m. on August 18 with District Judge Timothy Schill presiding.
