Woman’s Identity Used to File Fraudulent Income Tax, Establish Credit Card

ELDRED TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say an incident of identity theft took place in Eldred Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, an unknown perpetrator used the personal identifying information of a 50-year-old Sigel woman to file fraudulent federal income tax forms sometime between February 1 and July 31.

The unknown perpetrator also used the information to establish a fraudulent American Express merchant account, police say.

No other information was released.
