Janet-Steffee-1439545553Janet Alene McKissick Steffee, 82, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 12, 2015, in her home, surrounded by family, in Rouseville.

Born May 5, 1933 in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Gertrude Mary Lemmon McKissick and Donald Charles McKissick.

Janet graduated from Oil City Senior High School.

Alongside her husband, the late Robert M. Steffee, she was a private business owner for over 30 years which included Steffee’s Ice Cream in Titusville, PA and Barnacle Bill’s Seafood in Franklin, PA.

Mrs. Steffee was a member of Eastern Star, Morris Chapter No. 14 since 1952. She was a worthy matron in 1963 and a Rainbow Girl advisor. She was a member of the Rouseville United Methodist Church.

For many years, she was a volunteer election worker for the Borough of Rouseville. Janet was recognized by Pennsylvania Voter Hall of Fame for a 50 year consecutive voting record.

Janet was a stylish, classy woman best described as a “Steel Magnolia”. A powerful strong force, beautiful, soft and sweet.

An enthusiast for life, she intrinsically understood the value of the simple things. She cherished being with family, adored babies, loved animal and traveling.

Known to be a loyal friend, Janet always had a smile to give and an ear to listen. She was authentic, fun to be with, curious and adventurous. She was an amazing cook, especially gifted at baking. Her fudge, cookies and pie were regularly requested.

Favorite activities include picnics, playing cards, cross country skiing, bicycling and golf. With a meticulous eye for detail, interior design, fashion, jewelry and makeup were forever a necessity to her.

In 1951, she married Robert Melat Steffee. The celebrated 60 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on August 15, 2011.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Elizabeth (Betty) McFadden and half-sister Nancy Soss.

Surviving are four daughters, Sara (Sally) Steffee of Rouseville, Sharon Liberty and husband Tom of Sewickley, Sheila Schneider of Titusville and friend Richard Hargenrader, and Shelly Steffee Shepard and husband Dave of New York City.

Also surviving are six grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Brian Liberty and wife Heather, daughter Brooke of Aliquippa, Nathan Liberty and wife Megan, daughter Peyton of Cambridge Springs, Suzanne Zdarko Favano and husband Leandro of San Diego, CA, Haley Schneider of Erie, and Shane Schneider and Marlee Schneider of Pittsburgh, PA.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 pm with the Rev. Brenda Snedden officiating.

Interment will be in Rynd Farm Cemetery.
