Emlenton Man Allegedly Takes Marijuana Delivery At Post Office

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — An Emlenton man is facing charges after he allegedly took delivery of a package containing marijuana.

According to a criminal complaint, the U.S. postal inspection services notified the State Attorney General’s Office on August 14 of a package addressed to Jesse Michael Mangel, 25, of Emlenton, which allegedly emanated an odor of marijuana. “Due to manpower issues” the package was ultimately delivered to the address.

A postal inspector was notified August 17 by the Emlenton post master of another package addressed to Mangel, said to be identical to the first one. The postal inspector instructed the post master in Emlenton to scan the parcel to show it had arrived at the post office, the complaint states.

Shortly after this the office received a call from someone who identified themselves as Mangel and asked for confirmation the package had been delivered. Mangel allegedly told the post master he would come the post office between 3:00 and 3:30 p.m. to pick up the parcel, the complaint continues.

The postal inspector and an agent from the Attorney General’s office had a K9 officer examine the package, and the K9 allegedly gave two positive indications for the odor of controlled substances emanating from it, according to the complaint.

Later Mangel arrived and took possession of the parcel and made statements during an interview which led police to obtain a search warrant for his Whitling Road, Emlenton residence.

Police were allegedly able to seize multiple items of drug paraphernalia, controlled substances, live marijuana plants, and multiple firearms from the residence, the complaint states.

Police also allegedly fund three emaciated dogs at the residence, the complaint continues.

According to online court documents, Mangel faces the following charges:

  • Manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, unclassified (four counts)
  • Conspiracy to manufacture, deliver, or possession with intent to do the same, unclassified
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia, unclassified (two counts)
  • Criminal use of a communication facility, unclassified

Mangel was arraigned at 11:05 p.m. August 17 before District Judge Andrew Fish on $125,000.00 unsecured bail.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 1:30 p.m. August 26 in Venango County Central Court.
