CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – Clarion University SBDC (Small Business Development Center) is offering seminars on unemployment compensation, Quickbooks, and “First Steps to Start A Small Business” on Thursday, October 8.

SEMINAR ON UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION

UC Appeals and Relief from Charges

Location: Clarion University SBDC on October 8 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

This seminar discusses the UC appeal process, how to prepare for a hearing, and includes a mock UC hearing.

During the seminar, it will also be explained: what is relief from charges, which employers are eligible to file for it, how the employers are notified that their account may be charged, how to file for relief from charges, how separation issues affect the employer’s eligibility for relief, and appeal rights.

Independent Contractor vs. Employee and UC Overpayments

Location: Clarion University SBDC on October 8 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

This seminar explains the difference between an employee and an independent contractor, what conditions must be met to be considered an independent contractor, who must meet the burden of proof, and how the issuance of Form UC-1099 affects independent contractor status.

It will also be explained how the UC system prevents, defects, and recovers UC overpayments, and the employer’s involvement in the overpayment process.

QuickBooks 2014 Level I

Location: Clarion University SBDC on October 8 and 15 from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM

This seminar can help participants learn the basics. Learn to create, use and maintain books with ease. Keep track of payables and receivables.

SEMINAR ON FIRST STEPS TO START A SMALL BUSINESS

This monthly seminar provides an overview on the steps to start a business along with an in-depth look at a business plan.

Topics include business registration, licenses, business structures, taxation, research tools, and what to expect in financing your business.

This seminar is offered in several locations each month throughout the ten county region.
