Clarion’s Simmons PSAC-West Offensive Player of the Week

SimmonsLOCK HAVEN, Pa. — Clarion University QB Connor Simmons (Jr. New Palestine, In.) was named the PSAC-West Offensive Player of the Week for his outstanding performance on Saturday leading the Golden Eagles to a 36-23 win at Edinboro.

Simmons completed 18 of 28 passes for 345 yards and 4 td’s on the day, two to Matt Lehman and two to Kevin Genevro. Simmons QB rating was 214.9 for the game.

In the 2015 season Simmons has completed 127 of 190 passes for 2,002 yards and 21 td’s with 2 interceptions. He has completed 66.8% of his passes and leads all of NCAA Division II with a qb efficiency rating of 189.72. He also passed for 431 yards against Mercyhurst (third highest single game in Clarion history) and 407 yards against Lock Haven, the 6th most in a single game in Clarion history.

In two seasons at Clarion Simmons has now completed 256 of 451 (56.8%) for 3,810 yards and 34 td’s.

The Golden Eagles, under first year head coach Chris Weibel, are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the PSAC-West. It is the best overall start since Clarion was 7-0 to start the 1983 season under then head coach Gene Sobolewski. Clarion’s 3-0 West start is the best since Clarion was 3-0 to start the league in 2000. Clarion’s 1996 team, which was quarterbacked by Weibel, started the league at 5-0 before dropping a divisional contest.

Simmons is the son of Brian and Abby Simmons. He is Sports Management major at Clarion.

Clarion hosts Seton Hill at Memorial Stadium this Saturday at 3pm. The game is being produced for TV by Sportsfever.
