Clarion U. Men’s Basketball Defeats Cheyney 83-67

CLARION, Pa. — Justin Dobbs scored 17 points off the bench and BJ Andrews added 16 as the Golden Eagles defeated Cheyney 83-67 in a PSAC game on Saturday afternoon at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium.

Clarion raised its overall record to 2-2 and is now 2-0 in the PSAC-West, while Cheyney drops to 0-2 overall and in the PSAC-East. Clarion returns to Tippin Gym on Sunday at 3pm to take on Millersville.

Cheyney jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the contest, but the Golden Eagles put on a 21-4 run, capped on a three-pointer by BJ AndrewsAndrews (pictured below on left) to take a 21-11 lead at 9:19 of the first half. Although the Eagles led 32-20 when Akeem Williams hit a free throw at 3:28, the Wolves bounced back to narrow the lead to 34-30 at halftime.

Ahead only 40-35 at the 15:43 mark in the second half, the Eagles went on a nine point run to take a 49-35 lead. The drive was capped by two free throws from freshman RJ Laugand at 12:58.

The lead got as high as 19 points on a BJ Andrews lay up with 3:42 to play and the Eagles coasted in from there.

Dobbs had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal, while Andrews collected 16 points, 2 assists and 2 steals, Rob Agurs added 12 points and Larry Johnson Jr. had 10.

Clarion shot 43.3% from the floor (26 of 60) and 61% from the free throw line (27 of 44).

Cheyney was led by Dominique Davis who had 16 points.
