Clarion County Career Center Students, Faculty Raise Over $3700 for Cancer Center

SHIPPENVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – The Clarion County Career Center recently conducted its annual “Coins for a Cure” campaign.

Each week highlighted a different cancer and students were encouraged to wear the color of the cancer ribbon on the last day of each week.  Students who wore the weekly color were entered in the weekly drawing to win one of five t-shirts.  Containers were placed in each classroom and the class who collected the highest amount in their container won a pizza party.

Mr. Aaron Kline, Director, challenged the students again (who remembers his pink hair and the dunk tank) to raise at least $2000. He also let the students vote on what “activity” he would have to do if they met the goal. The result – students and staff raised $3,782.00.

The activity that received the most student votes was: Slime Kline! The Allied Health Science class raised the most in their container which won them the chance to pour slime not only on Mr. Kline, but also their teacher Mrs. Traci Wildeson at morning and afternoon assemblies held on Friday, November 6. Culinary Arts students made the slime and Construction Technology set up and cleaned up the ‘sliming’ area. Mr. Kline and Mrs. Wildeson got into a little slime pouring themselves, with Mrs. Wildeson pouring a bucket on Mr. Kline’s head in the morning assembly. He returned the favor in the afternoon by dousing her with a bucket of the cold, slimy mixture.

Tracy Myers from the Clarion Cancer Center attended both assemblies to talk with the students about how their donations would help local families who are struggling and battling with cancer. This brings the four year total the Career Center students have donated to the Clarion Cancer Center to $10,318.55.
