OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – After some smoke cleared at the Monday night meeting of the Oil City School Board, the Board voted 7-1 to approve a list of wrestling program coaches originally submitted before Oct. 15.

Mike Crocker, the former head wrestling coach, earlier informed the Board he would need to limit his role because of health reasons.

Coaches approved included:

  • Kevin Ochalek- Interim Head Coach
  • Trent Zdarko- Varsity Assistant
  • John Beach- Junior High
  • Cody Johnson- Junior High
  • Luke McFetridge- Elementary
  • Mike Rossey- Elementary
  • Mike Crocker- Volunteer
  • Kody Duncan- Volunteer
  • Eric Johnson- Volunteer
  • Ryan Murray- Volunteer

Board members earlier failed to obtain a majority of five to approve the hiring of the coaches; a vote was rescheduled for last night’s meeting.

Approximately 40 parents, students, and community members attended the meeting and stressed the coaches were for the “kids.”

Volunteers were supervising wrestling practices in the interim before coaches were formally hired.

An earlier email memo from Oil City Wrestling stated: “EVERY ONE of these coaches obtained the 5 clearances that are needed to coach in Pennsylvania. The majority of these coaches have been involved in the wrestling program for several years and have been approved in the past.”
