PORTER TWP., Pa. (EYT) – An investigation is underway following an explosion Thursday morning in the New Bethlehem area.

Clarion-based State Police told exploreClarion.com that New Bethlehem Fire Company was dispatched around 6:25 a.m. for a report of an explosion in Porter Township, Clarion County.

The explosion occurred at a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Station located in the area of 1534 State Route 66.

Following the explosion, the Pennsylvania State Fire Marshal Unit was requested to conduct an investigation.

Police say the blast appears to have originated within the station; however, the cause is unknown and the investigation remains open.

Investigators say the station is a total loss. The surrounding self-storage sheds were also damaged as a result of the explosion.

Total damage to the station and surrounding buildings is estimated at $100,000.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters from Hawthorn, Limestone, and Distant assisted at the scene.

Clarion Hospital EMS, Columbia Gas, and P.U.C. also assisted at the scene.
