I-80 Reopens Following Three-Tractor Trailer Crash

According to police, 28-year-old Andrew J. Torres, of Tiverton, RI; 49-year-old Jeffrey L. Jacobs, of Rowlett, TX; and 48-year-old Christine J. Cully, of Hurleyville, NY, were involved in the collision.

Police say this crash occurred around 9:14 a.m. as a 2015 Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by Torres; a 2015 Freightliner tractor-trailer, driven by Jacobs; and a 1996 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, driven by Cully were traveling west on I-80.

The 2015 Freightliner was traveling at a slow rate of speed due to a backlog of traffic from another crash in Mercer County, according to police.

Torres and Cully failed to see the slow-moving traffic. Torres’ Kenworth struck the Freightliner in the rear. Cully tried to avoid hitting the Freightliner, but her Peterbilt jackknifed and struck the Kenworth and the Freightliner.

The Kenworth traveled off the north side of I-80 and rolled over after its impact with the Freightliner. The Peterbilt was blocking both westbound lanes of traffic.

All three vehicles were towed from the scene by Hovis Towing.

There were no injuries as a result of this crash.

Clintonville VFD and Superior Ambulance assisted at the scene.

Interstate 80 was closed over five hours as a result of the collision.
