CLARION, Pa. – The Clarion County Coalition for Suicide Prevention is sponsoring a Suicide Awareness walk.

The organization invites the public to help raise awareness for the prevention of suicide by walking on September 10, 2015. The walk will begin in downtown Clarion’s Veteran’s Memorial Park. Registration begins at 5:00 p.m. with the walk beginning at 6:30 p.m. A candle light vigil will take place on the steps of the court house immediately following the walk.

Ian Cummins, whose brother died by suicide, will be leading the walk and speaking at the vigil. Ian walked across the United States to raise awareness for the cause.

“The primary source of funding for the Suicide Prevention Walk is from corporate and individual sponsors. Without donations, this event would not be possible,” said the organization in a press release.

The Clarion County Coalition for Suicide Prevention was founded in July 2014. The mission of the Coalition is to bring diverse organization and individuals together to increase public awareness and to encourage the prevention of suicide through education and resources. According to their mission statement, Members have a vision to create a community and educational setting free from suicide and want to be able to provide prevention and intervention training to any person and all groups in the community.
